Goals of
the course
Level 1 Certificate in
Coaching Swimming is the first qualification on the coaching swimming ladder
designed for people seeking entry into the profession of coaching swimming. The
qualification is designed to provide learners with an introduction to the
practical and theoretical aspects of coaching swimming. This qualification is
intended to provide the beginner coach with an introduction to the knowledge,
skills and understanding of the safe and ethical principles for effective
coaching practices in swimming. It will equip the trainer with the knowledge
and tools to actively support a more senior qualified, experienced coach of
swimming at any level and the delivery of pre-prepared sessions.
Further this qualification is for
those learners who:

an introduction to coaching in a swimming environment.

Objectives
of the course
· Promote and
establish working relationships and high standards of behavior with swimmers,
other coaches, parents and officials in the overall development of swimming.
·
Demonstrate an
ability to safely prepare, support and conclude swimming coaching
sessions/activities using pre-planned session plans.
·
Demonstrate an
understanding of:
o Generic coaching skills
o Sport specific coaching skills
o Coach and performer/swimmer development
o Good practice in coaching ethics
o Healthy and safety
o Basic introduction to swimming

Demonstrate and
ability to identify and adapt swimming coaching sessions/activities for a
variety of different age groups and abilities
·
Indentify an
awareness of further personal development opportunities in this discipline,
including coaching, administration and officiating.

Criteria

have passed grade 7 at a government recognized school
